Vivienne Burrows Award for Longstanding Commitment to the IAB

J Malcolm Dean

The recipient this year of this Award has made a huge impact on the IAB over a period longer than anyone else. In fact, his involvement dates back to the very beginning of the IAB when it was established in 1973 and he immediately became a member. Only a year after that he was elected to the IAB Council on which he served for 17 years.  During this period he also served as a District Society Honorary Secretary and also was elected and served as Chair of the Education Committee.

He then stood down from the Council to serve for a year as interim CEO of the IAB and the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA) before then serving a further 14 years as CEO. Under his tenure and leadership with the Council, the IAB grew hugely in both the UK and internationally.

In 2006 he then supposedly retired and was succeeded by his namesake, Malcolm Trotter. But still he had yet more to give – acting for a further four years on a part-time basis as an Associate Director of International Development.

To this day he continues as a supportive IAB member and quite simply has IAB (and IFA) written all the way through him.
