Philip Hammond has announced the date of this year’s Autumn Budget – Monday 29 October. The chancellor said he would reveal the government’s spending plans for next year exactly five months before Britain is due to leave the EU.
In announcing the date via Twitter, he promised to deliver a plan that would support public services while building a stronger economy. He said: “I’ll set out how our balanced approach is getting debt falling while supporting our vital public services, and how we are building a stronger, more prosperous economy.”
The Budget was originally expected in late November or early December, but the Chancellor has pushed forward his annual Budget to avoid Brexit discussions. There were concerns about whether Brexit talks and possible deals could effect any announcements in the Autumn Budget.
