Immigration and Brexit
Louis MacWilliam of Black Solicitors will talk about how employers can help to secure the rights of their EU staff and how to mitigate the effects of Brexit.
Louis will explain how Brexit has affected the ability of businesses to retain and recruit migrant staff. He will talk through the key immigration changes, including the new EU Settlement Scheme.
He will look ahead to the UK’s long-term immigration policy, the end of free movement, and to some of the challenges it will present to many employers.
About the speaker
Louis MacWilliam joined Blacks Solicitors as an Associate Solicitor in May 2018 and specialises in immigration law. Prior to joining Blacks, Louis worked for four years at a leading London law firm and has represented clients at various levels.
With over 10 years’ under his belt working exclusively as an immigration specialist, Louis provides advice to businesses on hiring non-EU workers (applying for and managing a Sponsor License), securing the rights of EU employees and planning for life after Brexit. He also supports clients in relation to Home Office compliance and can carry out mock-audits.
Managing and exiting an SME
Lewis will discuss, benefits of shareholder and partnership agreements, with an overview of key provisions, alternative methods of incentivising and retaining key staff and considering exit strategies and how to prepare for exit.
About the speaker
Lewis Goodwin specialises in Corporate and Commercial law and joined Blacks Solicitors as an Associate in November 2017. Lewis has 14 years’ experience of advising mainly SME’s and owner managed businesses in matters such as buying, selling and re-organising companies and businesses, corporate governance matters and adopting share incentive schemes.
