Now that HMRC has entered the public beta element of the Making Tax Digital pilot for VAT they have begun to send letters to businesses impacted by the changes to inform them of their obligations.
The initial wave of letters will be sent to 200,000 businesses who are currently eligible to join the pilot. HMRC expect the first 20,000 letters to start arriving with customers from Thursday 8 November. They will then pause to monitor the impact of the letters before restarting to issue the following week.
The communications are being called VAT encouragement letters and there are two different versions being sent. The letters provide a brief summary of Making Tax Digital for VAT and the changes taking place and provide information about what to do to join the new service.
