MTD for VAT: rules to change in April
HMRC is reminding all VAT-registered businesses, regardless of taxable turnover, that they will be required to follow Making Tax Digital (MTD) rules from April 2022.
This means using MTD-compatible software to keep digital records and submitting VAT returns through MTD.
HMRC said: “Businesses should start keeping digital records for their first VAT return period, starting on or after 1 April 2022, and sign up to MTD at least 72 hours before their first return is due.
“All VAT businesses must now take steps to switch to MTD if they have not done so already. We’re writing to all businesses who have not yet signed up to remind them of the actions they need to take.”
The Revenue has published as step-by-step guide for agents, to help them prepare their clients for the changes. Go to https://tinyurl.com/43sx5m5u
