NatWest banking on your voice

NatWest has teamed up with Google to allow customers to ask a home smart speaker for details about their bank accounts. In a three-month trial, some 500 customers will be able to check balances and ask about their recent transactions.

NatWest said that the new voice assistant capabilities could also be extremely helpful for visually-impaired customers.

In order to use the voice features users will have to remember two numbers of their six-digit PIN to confirm their identity.

The pilot lets customers ask eight questions as well as access over 15 banking tips and, if successful, the plan is to introduce more features.

NatWest’s head of Open Experience, Kristen Bennie, said: “We are exploring voice banking for the first time and think it could mark the beginning of a major change to how customers manage their finances in the same way mobile banking made a huge impact.”
