  • The IAB course has given me a passion for bookkeeping and now I have an internationally recognised qualification to help me build my career. The course motivated me to learn more about how businesses work and has made me realise how in-demand bookkeeping is – I know my skills will always be needed. With distance learning you can work at your own pace around your commitments. This was great for me plus, I get the one-to-one support I need from professional tutors.

  • Studying on a distance learning course is a really flexible way of tailoring your studies around your work and home life. For this reason distance learning really appealed to me. I have a busy life and trying to commit to a set day or evening every week was difficult for me. I was able to study when and where I wanted and also being able to control how quickly I could complete the course was so helpful. I was always confident I was on top of my studies; if I was busy one week ...

  • I completed my IAB Level 1 Computerised Accounting for Business with Sage through my Adult Education College in Dec 2013 which I found to be OK but I didn’t feel that I got anything extra out of sitting in a classroom environment. I then considered learning through a distance learner and did a lot of research on the companies that actually run your courses. As Goldings were a Silver awarded company, I called them. I spoke with Di whose telephone manner was impeccable. ...

  • As a member of "IAB", I find the services provided by this organisation excellent.  It helps me to achieve my work goals and keep up to date with current financial information. I really enjoyed the newsletter that I read at my own pace.  I find all the IAB staff extremely supportive.  The CPD structure is so flexible that it fits in with my other commitment. I would definitely recommend membership to anyone. What a fantastic organisation!

IAB backs micro business support day

The IAB has thrown its support behind #MicroBizMattersDay, when business people around the world are being encouraged to give nine minutes of their time to help owners of micro businesses and the self-employed.

Organised by micro business self-help community Enterprise Rockers, the event takes place on January 9, 2015. “We are asking everyone to give nine minutes, day or night, to make life better for owners of micro enterprises, which are defined as employing up to nine people,” said Tony Robinson OBE, founder of Enterprise Rockers. “That support can take many forms. You could use social media to promote the name of a micro business whose services you use or whose products you buy, buy something online from one, or pay any outstanding bills you owe micro businesses.”

He added: “People can also help in the run-up to January 9 by spreading the word about the event on social media and during meetings with clients and suppliers. The nine minutes are all about customers and cashflow, both of which are at the heart of IAB members’ support for the self-employed and micro businesses around the world.”

In addition to the #MicroBizMattersDay hashtag, the organisers are also encouraging supporters to use #NotAnSME in their social media activity on the day.

“Many governments and large organisations around the world say they are supporting SMEs to pretend they are helping small businesses,” explained Robinson. “In fact, SMEs are usually companies with 10 to 250 employees, so it is not a helpful term. What the public thinks of as small businesses are actually micro businesses.”

IAB Chief Executive Malcolm Trotter said his organisation was proud to support #MicroBizMattersDay. “Many of our members are either self-employed or run or work for micro businesses, and many of their clients fall into the same category,” said Malcolm. “We work closely with Tony Robinson and Enterprise Rockers who help provide free guidance, support and inspiration for our members.

“#MicroBizMattersDay is an excellent way of raising the profile of such a crucial part of the economy. I am encouraging our members to take part and, in turn, encourage their clients to do the same.”
