People waiting for surgery now entitled to SSP

New rules have come into force meaning anyone advised to self-isolate prior to planned or elective surgery or other hospital procedure could be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).

To be eligible under this provision the person must:

• have received a pre-surgery notification;

• have been advised to stay at home for a period of up to 14 days before the date on which they are to be admitted to hospital for the procedure referred to in the pre-surgery notification; and

• be staying at home in accordance with that advice.
