You’re sitting at your desk and you start to notice that the chair doesn’t feel as stable as it once was.
So, you get up off it and take a look around the chair to find that some of the screws have come loose. You can’t continue to sit on it because it will start falling apart and may cause some damage, so you find the appropriate tools in order to tighten up the screws and make the chair stable again. A good thing to do in the future is make regular checks and tighten the screws up say once per month so it doesn’t get to that state again.
Why don’t we do this for our website and marketing?
Many people spend a lot of time and effort designing and making their site live then they leave it alone and never go back and check to see if it’s actually working properly.
Are the images loading correctly? Are there any broken links? Does the contact page work?
A few years ago, I had a client who had come to me for some marketing and we put a campaign together for him. He put it out and then waited. It was getting lots of attention but no enquiries. Until one day a prospective client called him to ask if he’d received his message from his website. He said he hadn’t and then started to explore. He quickly found out that his contact page wasn’t connected properly ARRGGHHH!!! He quickly contacted his web designer who promptly fixed the issue.
All that effort we’d spent together creating a great campaign and his website wasn’t working properly to receive the enquiries.
Don’t let this happen to you. One simple thing left unchecked can be disastrous for your business.
Set a calendar reminder once per month to check that the contact page is delivering your messages properly and to make sure the main links are all working too. Here’s a good resource to check the links https://www.brokenlinkcheck.com/
Good luck and good business
