Our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Supervision Report 2026 is now available to download. Published under Regulation 46A of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, it sets out how we supervised our member practices over the past year and what we found.

The report covers 6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026. It was a year of change. In October 2025 the Government decided to transfer AML supervision of professional services to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and the report explains how we have continued to supervise effectively through that period.

  • Leadership perspective: IAB Chief Executive Sarah Palmer on the FCA transition, and why the realities of smaller practices must be understood as a new supervisory model takes shape.
  • AML Complete™ in action: how two years of mandatory use gives us a live view of practice and client risk, and sharper targeting of inspections.
  • Entry controls and enforcement: vetting, declined applications, revoked licences and fines.
  • Our supervised population: a breakdown of the services practices offer and the client risk they carry.
  • Inspection outcomes and five-year trends: grading, action plans and fines from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
  • The year ahead: the FCA transition timetable and the regulatory and guidance changes practices need to act on now.

What the report means for your practice

Responsibility for compliance stays with each practice. Amendments to the Money Laundering Regulations came into effect on 30 June 2026, and revised CCAB Anti-Money Laundering Guidance for the Accountancy Sector followed on 5 August 2026.

Over the coming year, our supervision will focus on whether you have considered these changes, updated your policies and procedures where needed, and can show how your arrangements work in practice. Source-of-funds checks, enhanced due diligence, beneficial ownership verification and the evidence behind your decisions will all receive close attention.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Regulation 46A AML supervision report?

It is an annual report that every UK professional body AML supervisor must publish under Regulation 46A of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. It explains how the supervisor carried out its duties, including entry controls, inspections, enforcement action and the risks it has identified across its supervised population.

What period does the IAB AML Supervision Report 2026 cover?

The report covers our supervisory work from 6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026. It also includes five years of inspection grading, action plan and fines data, so you can see how AML compliance across our supervised practices has changed since 2021-22.

When will the FCA take over AML supervision of accountants?

The indicative transition window is late 2028 to 2030, subject to confirmation of implementation arrangements. Until the transfer happens, the IAB remains your AML supervisor, and we are working with the FCA transition project team and OPBAS to support a coordinated handover.

What AML changes do practices need to act on now?

Amendments to the Money Laundering Regulations took effect on 30 June 2026, and revised CCAB AML guidance followed on 5 August 2026. Practices should review these changes, update policies and procedures where needed, and be able to show how their arrangements work in practice.

What will IAB AML inspections focus on in 2026-27?

Inspections will focus on whether practices have responded to the regulatory and guidance changes. Source-of-funds checks, enhanced due diligence, beneficial ownership verification and the evidence behind compliance decisions will all receive close attention, alongside a proportionate approach for smaller practices.

Are the IAB AML CPD modules compulsory?

Yes. Completion of the full suite of eight AML CPD modules became compulsory for supervised members from 1 October 2026. The modules cover the regulatory framework and practical application, drawing on the Money Laundering Regulations and CCAB guidance. If you have not completed them yet, you should do so now.

The IAB remains your AML supervisor through the FCA transition. Download the report and make sure your practice is ready for what comes next.
